Raggamuffin Holding Contest to Find Two Local Opening Acts
The search for New Zealand's hottest new reggae and urban talent is on.
Raggamuffin IX has launched a talent search seeking two bands - one reggae and one urban - as opening acts for the Festival at Trusts Arena in Auckland on Saturday 20 February 2016.
The opening act bands will be selected by performing at heats to be held in Porirua, Masterton, Hastings, Palmerston North and Auckland from Friday 13 to Friday 27 November, with the finals to be held in Porirua on Saturday 12 December.
Raggamuffin spokesman Brotha D (Danny Leaoasavaii) said this is a great opportunity for up and coming bands and musicians to perform at the Southern Hemisphere's largest reggae and urban music festival.
"We know there's great young talent out there and we want to nurture that talent."
As well as performing as the opening acts at the Festival which features UB40, The Game, Eddy Grant, Xzibit and Macy Gray as headline acts, the two winning bands will also share $5000 in prize money.
The Raggamuffin IX Opening Act Talent Search is open to all New Zealand bands and musicians, although performers under 18 years old require parental consent.
The heats for the contest begin on Friday 13 November at The Ledge in Porirua, followed by heats at Cloverlea Tavern, Palmerston North on Saturday 14 November, at the Genesis Energy Centre in Masterton on Friday 20 November, Hastings Sports Rec on Saturday 21 November and finally the Papatoetoe Clubrooms in Auckland on Friday 27 November. The finals will be held at Te Rauparaha Arena in Porirua on Saturday 12 December.
Details for entering the Raggamuffin IX Opening Act Talent Search are available on the Raggamuffin Facebook page Facebook.com/raggamuffin and at www.raggamuffin.co.nz
