Open Studios Waitākere 2015
Open Studios Waitākere 2015 is a weekend opportunity for artists resident in the Waitākere Ranges Local Board area to open their studios to the public.
With over 60 artists involved, and 40 studios from Huia to Henderson Valley, Titirangi to Te Henga, it’s going to be an inspiring weekend out and about.
This much anticipated event is a unique opportunity to meet some of Waitākere’s most celebrated artists in their own studios from sculptors, painters, jewelers and illustrators, to ceramic artists and photographers.
Artists include well renowned New Zealand painter Dean Buchanan at his studio in Karekare; award winning illustrator and cartoonist Anna Crichton in Titirangi; ceramic artist Renee Boyd in Glen Eden - and many more.
The weekend provides the opportunity to see art in action, purchase local artwork and learn about the creative process.
Visitors can enjoy a self-guided tour at their own pace with the events Open Studios Map and mobile App, or jump on an Open Studios Bus Tour.
Further associated events include an Open Studios Rooftop Gig on the Saturday at Lopdell House. The gig features well known jazz artist Caitlin Smith and provides an entertaining break from Open Studios touring and a chance to refuel at the pop-up Deco Eatery.
The event has been made possible through the funds and support of the Waitākere Ranges Local Board.
“A flourishing arts and culture scene is one of our key priorities,” says Waitākere Ranges Local Board Deputy Chair Denise Yates. “We are thrilled to fund this event and believe Open Studios 2015 will showcase an amazing range of local talent.”
