BUPA TO SPONSOR WELLINGTON SEASON OF THE KEYS ARE IN THE MARGARINE
Bupa is proud to be sponsoring the Wellington Season of The Keys are in the Margarine: a verbatim play about dementia
Presented by Talking House, The Keys are in the Margarine brings together the disparate perspectives of medicine and art, giving voice to the experiences of people living with dementia.
The play is on at Bats Theatre from 11 – 14 November.
The Keys are in the Margarine is an insightful piece of theatre, in which from filmed interviews, six actors using MP3 players represent faithfully every word, intonation and gesture of people whose lives are affected by dementia.
“The Keys are in the Margarine gives a voice to people living with dementia, and as New Zealand’s largest provider of dementia care, we know the importance of promoting awareness and understanding of dementia,” says Bupa Managing Director Gráinne Moss.
The play premiered in the
Fortune Theatre Studio in Dunedin last year, with a sold-out
eleven night season. It is part of the Talking House
National Verbatim Tour alongside Be|Longing: a verbatim play
about the experience of migrants, and has been performed
around the country since August.
“It is
surprisingly hard to put into words how well these actors
'act' their characters. They completely inhabit the people
whose stories they are sharing.” - Dunedin Performance
Journal
“ … a moving and inspiring theatre experience.” - The Star
“The writing team of Cindy Diver, Susie Lawless and Stuart Young has crafted a poignant and at times amusing narrative that shows how all kinds of people respond to the call to sacrifice part of their own life in order to care for others.” – New Zealand Herald
