Countdown Starts for West Auckland Kids
Variety Mini Bash visiting West Auckland Schools
Two West Auckland schools are gearing up for a colourful visit from the cars and characters of the Variety Trillian Bash, a group of classic-car lovers who believe in having fun while doing good for others.
The ‘Bash’ raises money for Variety – The Children’s Charity, and the 18 participating teams pay a generous donation to take part, then organise colourful cars and costumes to entertain the kids they visit.
And among those kids for the annual three-day Mini Bash will be pupils at Whenuapai, Riverhead, Huapai District, West Harbour and Royal Road schools.
The Bash will start by giving the 460 Whenuapai school kids breakfast and making an equipment donation before some participants roll up their sleeves to join long-time sponsor Ford and its staff for an all-day working bee.
The rest of the cavalcade makes its way to Riverhead School and its 311 pupils for another donation, then splits into two groups. One will head to Huapai District School’s 320 kids and a donation, the other wends its way to West Harbour School for another, before they rejoin at Royal Road School to give away BMX bikes for the school’s bike track – designed to help teach kids cycle safety.
The Bash then visits Middlemore Hospital, before next day hosting children from South and West Auckland to an adventurous day on Waiheke thanks to Sealink and Ecozip.
Those from West Auckland were recommended by Recreate, which works with children with mild to moderate intellectual disability.
