Nature On Screen, a movie night for nature lovers
NATURE ON SCREEN, a movie night for nature lovers
Nature lovers are in for a treat on Monday 2nd November with the screening of two compelling documentaries which are set against the backdrop of the stunning New Zealand bush.
The award-winning conservation documentaries are ‘Pest Free? Can New Zealand Achieve The Impossible?’ which follows three Fiordland DOC rangers, and ‘Battling Extinction, Fighting For Our Forgotten Mammals’, about the national bat team who dedicate their lives to saving New Zealand’s only land mammals.
Nature on Screen starts at 7pm (doors open 6.30) at the Hawkins Theatre in Papakura and is an important fundraiser for South Auckland Forest & Bird. Tickets are $6.00 and can be purchased online: http://www.eventfinda.co.nz/2015/forest-and-bird-nature-on-screen/auckland/papakura or at the Hawkins Theatre, open Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.
Kate Loman-Smith, Deputy Chairman of South Auckland Forest & Bird, explains these exceptional movies are about the fight to save our most endangered native species, something that Forest & Bird members are passionate about. “We are particularly excited to be screening the documentary about bats as we need more New Zealanders to fall in love with and want to save these very special animals. We’ll also be launching our annual bat monitoring survey and will have hand-held bat monitors available for loan on the night.”
Movie goers will also be treated to a range of related displays in the foyer at the end of the movie. Coffee and tea is available plus the chance to win ‘Wetlands of New Zealand, A Bitter Sweet Story’, a signed book by the award-winning author Janet Hunt
