Diverse NZ stories reflecting diverse NZ culture
NZ On Air is pleased to expand the range of diverse factual programmes available on television including new programmes on music superstars, paralympic heroes and the characters you find in the halls of Parliament.
Iconic band Split Enz will be the focus of another of the very popular Prime Rocks series. The one-off documentary Split Enz will chart the band’s triumphs and disappointments, the creative processes and relationships behind the songs that have formed a soundtrack for a generation.
Viewers will be able to follow the road to success of our Paralympians in Ready, Set...Rio – Paralympics 2016. NZ On Air has funded a co-production between TVNZ and The Attitude Group which will deliver comprehensive coverage across multiple platforms of our team at the Rio event.
A new series for Māori Television will take us Inside Parliament. From the team behindMedia Take, the fly-on-the-wall series aims to demystify the workings of Parliament and give a younger generation a greater understanding of what MPs and the variety of other people involved in day-to-day running of Parliament do.
“All of these new programmes and the returning series hold a mirror up to New Zealand, demonstrating our diversity,” said NZ On Air Chief Executive Jane Wrightson.
Returning series in 2016 include the Pacific youth series Fresh, and long-running Tagata Pasifika, while Neighbourhood will again explore the hometowns of well-known New Zealanders and Both Worlds the lives of migrants and refugees. Attitude will be back with its inspiring series about and for people with disabilities, Rural Delivery and Praise Be return, as do the political discussions on Back Benches and Media Take.
Also funded in this round is the live broadcast by TV One of the National wreath-laying ceremony at Pukeahu National War Memorial Park in Wellington on Anzac day 2016.
