Netball New Zealand launches the New Zealand Netball Awards
Thursday 1 October, 2015
The inaugural New Zealand Netball Awards, to be held on Wednesday 18 November at the iconic Auckland War Memorial
Museum, will honour and celebrate excellence at all levels of the sport.
It will be a must-see event, broadcast live on SKY Sport NZ, featuring all the glitz and glamour of the Red Carpet
presented by Woman’s Day, before a gala dinner that will culminate in the night’s most prestigious accolade - The Dame
Lois Muir Supreme Award.
For the first time in history, Netball New Zealand will honour its best player when they present the Dame Lois Muir
Supreme Award, recognising the best Netballer across the ANZ Championship and the Silver Ferns campaign each year.
Netball New Zealand Chief Executive Hilary Poole said the award, named after Dame Lois Muir DNZM OBE, is regarded as the
highest individual accolade a New Zealand Netballer can achieve.
“Netball New Zealand has never recognised the best-of-the-best through an annual award – until now,” Poole said.
“Dame Lois Muir is one of the most influential figures in our sport’s history. She was a former Silver Ferns player, our
fourth national coach and is still considered as having one of the most astute netballing brains in the game today.
“It is only fitting that our sport’s highest individual accolade will be named in her honour.”
Fans are also encouraged to get involved, with the opportunity to vote for the ANZ / Sky Sport Moment of the Year and
the Woman’s Day People’s Choice Awards. Voting is now open viaNZNetballAwards.co.nz
