Summerfield looks for top result at Wairarapa
Rangiora’s Matt Summerfield is looking to run at the front at the final round of the Brian Green Property Group New Zealand Rally Championship, the Trusthouse Racetech Rally Wairarapa, which runs this weekend.
The event has attracted a star studded field with past champions taking on the current young guns in the championship and Summerfield is confident he can take the challenge to the front runners is the Castrol Edge Subaru.
Sitting just four points off third place in the overall championship standings, a strong finish will see Matt and co-driving sister Nicole in strong contention for a podium spot for the season.
One thing working in the pair’s favour is the format of the event. The brother and sister pair write their own pace notes, and the format, which sees four stages repeated, allows them to put more work into refining their pace notes.
“It’s a seriously quality field and I reckon that we can have a pretty good go at being towards the front of it,” says Summerfield. “It’s a good event for us, particularly with the repeat stages.”
Trusthouse Racetech Rally Wairarapa runs on October 3, starting from the small Manawatu township of Pohangina from 7.40am, taking on a total of eight special stages totalling 155.9 kilometres before the finish in Masterton from 3.55pm.
Matt Summerfield Rallisport would like to acknowledge their sponsors, without whom their 2015 campaign would not be possible: Castrol Edge, Autotech Services, Brita Safety, Clearwater Painting, North Canterbury Energy Centre, The Gearbox Company, Chatterton Builders, Liquorland, I C Frith Insurance Brokers and No Limit Construction.
