Capital E’s Big Halloween Extravaganza is Bigger and Bolder than Ever!

You can be what you wear, you can wear what you’ll be, for the fancy-dress Fest down at Capital E. Come dressed as a dog
or a frog or a Queen. Come along to Queens Wharf for The Big Halloween!
On Saturday 31 October from 4pm-8pm, Wellington families will dress up and come down to Queens Wharf to party at Capital E’s annual spooky extravaganza in The Big Halloween. This year families can expect a huge feast of tricks and treats inside Capital E, outside under the sails and at Wellington Museum.
At Capital E Central, younger children aged 3+ will journey through a Suessian walk-in wonderland world. Starting in the
Lorax-inspired Bloomingville children will step through textured glow-in-the dark landscapes passing through a forest of noodles and fantasy trees
to reach the Rainbow Tunnel. Inside the tunnel children will make their way through fairy lights, tinsel and balloons to Somewhere Over the Rainbow – a cloud-like atmosphere featuring light installation The Infestation by Massey University students. This imaginative world is sure to bring anyone’s wildest imagination to life.
WARNING! Only for the super brave. Upstairs in Capital E’s MediaLab is Virtually Affected- A virtual horror house only for young people aged 13+. Sliding on a pair of google glasses with an android phone,
people can explore a house of terrors. We promise it will be an experience you won’t forget.
Capital E Director Stuart Grant says, “Last year The Big Halloween attracted over 3,000 visitors to Queens Wharf. Lines
outside Wellington Museum went to Frank Kitts Park and Capital E Central was packed. This will be yet another great year
for the event and is another wonderful addition to the Wellington calendar.”
Outside on Queens Wharf is where the sea of festivities begins! Wellington’s very own vampire dressed Balkanistas join
in on the fun with exotic music to boogie to alongside quirky characters sure to make you laugh. Children can have their
face painted by Halloween experts, and for a gold coin donation families can have their photo taken by Duo Photography
in their pop-up photo booth. Chupa Chup’s Trick or Treat Booth will be a highlight for children wanting to get an extra
thrill. Food and coffee stalls will be available for treats also on the day. Get your costume ready (there will be
prizes to be won) and we’ll see you there, if you dare!
In Wellington Museum, children aged 8+ are invited to a Vampire Ball from 5pm. Lurking in the shadows of Wellington
Museum are creatures some believed to be buried alive. On the eve of Halloween vampires abandon their coffins to throw a
raucous Vampire Ball. Amongst the guest list are ghouls, enigmas and hags, so ensure you’re dressed the part to fit in
otherwise you might be mistaken as a vampire snack.
