240 photos, 240 stories, Pecha Kucha Dunedin city vol. 27
Dunedin’s 27th Pecha Kucha Night will take place this weekend in conjunction with the touring exhibition History in the Taking: 40 years of PhotoForum, at the Dunedin Public Art Gallery.
A Pecha Kucha event involves 12 participants projecting 20 images each, and with only 20 seconds to speak about each
image. The event on Sunday evening will have a focus on photography and include an eclectic and exciting range of local
artists, educators and creative thinkers.
Pecha Kucha Nights originate from Tokyo and are now held in over 800 cities around the world. Produced by the Dunedin
Fringe Arts Trust, four Pecha Kucha nights are held annually in Dunedin. “Pecha Kucha gives us the opportunity to see
240 images and hear 240 stories in just one evening” says Trust Director, Josh Thomas, “the images vary from the
extremely personal to the highly professional – it’s a treasure-trove of storytelling” he said. “While every Pecha Kucha
is a wonderful visual feast, this event and its association with the PhotoForum exhibition means we’re in for a
particularly great celebration of the still image” he added.
