Heavy weekend weather leaves behind up to 40cm of fresh snow at Mt Ruapehu
Epic snow conditions sets up 2015 as one of the great seasons
Mt Ruapehu continues to ride the new snow wave after heavy snow conditions at the weekend blessed the mountain with up
to 40cm of fresh snow at Turoa, and 35cm at Whakapapa.
Simon Dickson, Mt Ruapehu Executive Manager – Commercial, says that the last 48hours has been full-on with plenty of
fresh snow, which is setting up the last month of the season nicely.
“This recent snow has been brilliant. We were already enjoying fantastic spring conditions, which is why we extended the
season until Labour Weekend at both ski areas, but this latest cold blast brought with it even more snow – October at Mt
Ruapehu is looking epic for skiing and riding,” says Mr Dickson.
“The weather has started to clear, so it’s looking good towards the end of the week and for the start of the school
holidays,” says Mr Dickson. “We’ve got a few key events happening in October so it’s good to know that there will still
be plenty of snow. First up is the Rattle Cat Cup this weekend then the Whakapapa Bikini Downhill on 3-4 October to
raise money for the Breast Cancer Foundation, and then there’s the Turoa Big Air on Sunday 4 October – these events are
always popular.”
Mt Ruapehu is currently selling its all-mountain adult day passes for use in October for the discounted rate of $60,
representing more than a 35% saving on the current full day pass rate at $95, and making this price the best value for
spring skiing in New Zealand.
A Youth day pass for October will be $40 (current full day pass rate is $60). For both passes there will be a minimum
two day purchase (Adult $120; Youth $80) and up to four days (Adult $240; Youth $120).
