Be transported to Vienna, the home of chamber music, for a captivating musical experience with three of Europe’s most noted leading musicians, the Vienna Piano Trio.

For the first time in more than a decade, the Vienna Piano Trio returns to New Zealand to perform in 10 centres across the country in October as the final concert in Chamber Music New Zealand’s 2015 Kaleidoscopes season. The Vienna Piano Trio performs at the Michael Fowler Centre in Wellington on Friday 16 October on the tour which includes Invercargill, Dunedin, Christchurch, Nelson, Napier, Palmerston North, New Plymouth, Hamilton and Auckland.

The tour is set to finish off CMNZ’s 2015 season on a high note with chief executive Peter Walls calling the tour “the polished gem in our season. This is a wonderful ensemble who are impeccable musicians with outgoing personalities who draw you into the music.”

Capturing the elegant spirit of chamber music, the Vienna Piano Trio features Stefan Mendl on piano and Matthias Gredler on cello with new violinist David McCarroll. David joined the Vienna Piano Trio this year and performs on a 1761 Gagliano violin, while Matthias Gredler plays a 1752 Guadagnini cello.

Ensemble-in-residence at Vienna’s Konzerthaus and with regular performances at London’s Wigmore Hall, the sophisticated artistic expression of Vienna Piano Trio has been charming audiences around the world for more than a quarter of a century.

Described by the Washington Post as “one of the world’s leading ensembles of violin, cello and piano, they have gathered up numerous awards for their performances and recordings including GramophoneEditor’s Choice, BBC Radio 3 Record of the Month and The Times Classic Album of the Year with BBC Music Magazine stating that their performances are “quite simply, stunning”.

The programme for the Wellington concert includes trios by Haydn and Brahms paired with Schoenberg’s Verklärte Nacht.
