Condolences to families for their loss at the Grand Mosque

Ahmadiyya Muslim Community extends heartfelt condolences to families for their loss at the Grand Mosque in Mecca

The recent news of the collapse of the crane and the resulting demise of at least 111 pilgrims and injury to over 330 others at the Grand Mosque in Mecca has shocked the world particularly the Muslim population in New Zealand and abroad.

The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community in New Zealand extends their heartfelt condolences to the members of the families who have suffered the loss of lives and those who have been injured as well as to the Government of Saudi Arabia for this distressing event.

The National President, Mr. Mohammed Iqbal said, “We realize that each pilgrim who died had arrived to perform the pilgrimage after much self-sacrifice and painstaking planning in the hope of fulfilling one of the pillars of Islam which can only be fulfilled at Mecca. We would like to share the grief suffered by the families who would have been awaiting the return of their loved ones back home.”

“Our fervent prayers are with the Almighty Allah to elevate the status of the souls of those who have passed away and grant them the choicest of the rewards reserved for those individuals destined for heaven’, said Mr. Iqbal.

We also pray and hope that the Government of Saudi Arabia ensures future renovations and improvement to the buildings would be carried out with the greatest attention to safety so that the millions of Muslims who converge at the Grand Mosque are able to perform the sacred pilgrimage in a safe manner.

The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community is a dynamic, fast-growing international revival movement within Islam. Founded in 1889 by Hadhrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (1835-1908) in Punjab, India, the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community spans over 206 countries with membership exceeding tens of millions. The New Zealand branch of this community was established in 1987 and has just over 450 members. It is a registered charitable organisation and endeavours to be an active and integrated community within New Zealand society.
