Clean Up Week is on now & bigger than ever!
Tidy Kiwis are coming out in droves for NZ’s biggest ever Clean Up Week!
Record numbers have been noted for Keep New Zealand Beautiful annual Clean Up Week which started yesterday.
So far there are over 42,000 tidy kiwis, and more than 500 events, registered across New Zealand. Keep New Zealand
Beautiful General Manager, Heather Saunderson, said there is a wide spread of events right across the country. “We have
events happening in nearly every corner of New Zealand. From Ahiparai Beach in Northland, through to Waikaka in
Southland you will find tidy kiwis doing their bit this week.”
Ms Saunderson says although they are tracking record numbers for the annual Clean Up, keeping New Zealand beautiful is
an enormous task, and it is important everyone makes an effort to keep New Zealand beautiful all year round. “Clean Up
Week is a fantastic tool for education and awareness around the issues of sustainability, environment and social
inclusion. It is important this awareness is then applied to day to day life after Clean Up Week.”
Over 165 schools have registered for Clean Up Week so far, and are making the most of the educational resources
available to them from Keep New Zealand Beautiful, such as unit plans and Tidy Kiwi stories.
It is not too late to get involved and Keep New Zealand Beautiful make it easy – you simply need to get together some
friends, family or colleagues and register on their website (www.knzb.org.nz). They will then send you out rubbish bags, gloves and council collection information. They also have certificates of
participation, posters and an event guide available too. If you are an individual, or aren’t able to arrange your own
event you can join an existing event through their website.
Keep New Zealand Beautiful Week runs from September 14th to September 20th.
