New Zealand Burlesque Festival returns for a third year
September 14, 2015
The world’s most sumptuous showgirls will take it off down under next month, in a series of dazzling performances at the New Zealand Burlesque Festival.
The sparkliest event in Palmerston North’s history returns for its third year, and it’s bigger, better and more enticing than ever, with an added tour to share the sparkle with the South Island..
In a whirlwind of glitter, feather boas and nipple tassels, the queens and kings of the international burlesque scene will tease and delight audiences at five shows across Palmerston North, Christchurch and Dunedin.
Headline acts include winners of the Las Vegas-based Burlesque Hall of Fame, Ginger Lee Valentine, Missy Lisa, Angie B. Lovely and Bazuka Joe, alongside New Zealand’s own star of the stage, Ruby Ruin, plus more than two dozen top local performers, and winner of the Grand Tease New Zealand burlesque competition, Fanciforia Foxglove.
The festival also includes workshops in the art of the shimmy and tease for curious newcomers, looking to unleash their inner striptease starlet, and experienced performers alike.
For the third year running, the Burlesque Exchange Scholarship will be awarded to one outstanding New Zealand performer, giving them automatic entry into the Show Me Burlesque Festival 2016 in St Louis, USA, plus assistance with travel costs, and help to establish their own US-based tour.
New Zealand Burlesque Festival co-producer Kerry Rodda, renowned internationally for her performances under the stage name MisRed Delicious, established the festival with husband Danny Rascal, to foster and grow the burlesque industry in New Zealand.
The award-winning burlesque entertainer, teacher and producer is currently performing a cross-country tour in the United States.
”We are thrilled to bring so many spectacular performers, including some of the top international talent, to the biggest event on the New Zealand burlesque calendar. We have seen the scene grow in the last three years with a lot of New Zealand performers now travelling to perform overseas and are excited to showcase this talent across three cities. With a large variety of acts and burlesque styles, you are guaranteed a fun night out full of surprises!”
