Laurie Firing at Pukahu

Laurie Firing at Pukahu

Katie Laurie has stamped an early mark on the 2015-2016 season taking the quinella in the Equissage Horse Grand Prix at the Pukahu and District Sports Show in Hastings today.

The showjumping mum from Mystery Creek, who is not long back from competing in North America, won the class on Dunstan Springfield, was second on her new ride Dunstan On the Point Bijoux and fourth on Dunstan On the Point Slic Chic, both who are owned by Jamie and Nicki Main.

Key to the win was a sneaky turn inside a double early in the course. Slic Chic notched the fastest time of the class, but paid for, by taking the last rail.

Eleven started the class, with six coming back for the jump-off over the Heather McDonald-designed course. Laurie with her top two, and Maurice Beatson (Dannevirke) aboard Schimmel Warrior, were the only double clears, with the others taking rails.

In the 12-strong Country TV Pony Grand Prix, Oliver Croucher (Rotorua) had a blinder, winning aboard Redcliffs Muchintuchin, placing third on Redcliffs Galeforce, and fourth on Paintball.

Georgia Massie starred in the Telford Junior Rider, winning on Double J Cloud 9 and placing second aboard Kiwi Ironheart. She was also third in the Canterbury Equestrian Young Rider class.

The show attracted more than 530 horses.
