Kiwiburn is full of emotion!

Kiwiburn is full of emotion!

The 2016 art theme is POT LUCK AND EMOTION – "Come one, come all. Camp, cook, celebrate; Laugh, cry, levitate. Like nana’s best summer ambrosia, Kiwiburn will leave you weeping tears of joy and asking please, please, MAY I HAVE SOME MORE!" This theme will influence the kinds of art people bring to the event – read more here: http://bit.ly/1hVO0fX.

The 13th Kiwiburn, New Zealand's Regional Burning Man event, will once again be held in Hunterville, it's third year in the region. The magnificent beauty of the festival site is affectionately known as 'the Paddock’, a place where over 1000 participants from New Zealand and afar gather to create art and music and so much more.

Kiwiburn is a participatory festival, where we – the participants – bring and make the things that we want to have here. As there are no paid performers at the event, there are no spectators and what is shared are the passions and dreams of those who gift them. There will be no money exchanged for anything at the event, nor bartering or trading – we are co-creating a gift economy and a different kind of social reality to go along with it where people feel free to express themselves. The event climaxes with the burning of a large wooden 'man’ effigy constructed by a different group of artists each year.

Kiwiburn continues to make positive contributions to the region with security for the event once again being provided by local volunteer firefighters. Kiwiburn also donated a percentage of each ticket sold to buy native trees for planting in Queens Park by the local Lion's Club. The event provides a great opportunity for locals to experience a positive and inclusive global artistic and social movement on their doorstep and Kiwiburn encourages the local community to participate.
