Domestic Schedule Revealed
The return of afternoon T20 matches to Eden Park Outer Oval is the Auckland highlight of an exciting domestic schedule.
Family filled Sunday crowds and after work T20 action are the two enticing prospects for Auckland cricket fans looking at this season’s Georgie Pie Super Smash draw. With four home games at the Outer Oval including three Sunday matches fans have a great offering of cricket to look forward to this summer.
The Central Stags, Canterbury Kings and Otago Volts will be the first three T20 sides to visit Eden Park this summer before a repeat of last year’s Georgie Pie Super Smash final as the Wellington Firebirds visit for the Mondiale Aces final round robin match.
Sunday afternoon start times will provide the ideal family day out, with Eden Park’s Outer Oval a great place to take in the action of cricket’s most exciting format, and space for the kids to roam and enjoy games of their own.
The midweek match against the Canterbury Kings provides the perfect excuse to nip home from work early to catch the action or a great after school activity for the kids. Both times should provide everyone the chance to enjoy some great cricket this season.
Mondiale Aces Coach Mark O’Donnell believes the Outer Oval will produce exciting matches.
“The Outer Oval is a very competitive wicket and as a team we enjoy playing there. With a good crowd in it is a great atmosphere for cricket. Hopefully the schedule and Sunday matches will see fans rolling through the gates.”
“As a team we also hope to be playing a brand of cricket that our fans will enjoy watching and that we believe can help us go one better than our second place finish last season,” O’Donnell added.
As well as the exciting T20 schedule the full domestic calendar has been released for the season ahead. The Plunket Shield and Ford Trophy will be held in the same windows as last season with the four day competition providing the season’s top and tail while the One Day format provides thrills over the holiday season.
The Mondiale Aces will open their Plunket Shield (brought to you by Budget Car & Truck Rental) campaign at home on Eden Park’s Outer Oval against Canterbury. The side will play three more matches on the Outer Oval across the four day competition and one at Colin Maiden Park.
The Outer Oval will host four matches during the Ford Trophy across an exciting few weeks in January. These matches attracted strong crowds last season who were treated to some fine performances and high scoring action.
