Jodi Brown’s return confirmed to complete Mojo Pulse roster
The Mojo Pulse roster for the 2016 ANZ Championship is now complete, with highly-experienced shooter Jodi Brown signing on for her second season in the yellow dress.
Originally from Wanganui, she played a major role for the Pulse in 2015, having previously played for the Canterbury Tactix (2008-09), Waikato Bay of Plenty Magic (2010) and Southern Steel (2012-2014). She has 57 international caps to her name in a 12-year test career, and was part of the Silver Ferns team at the recent Netball World Cup in Sydney.
Pulse Head Coach Tanya Dearns believes Jodi’s skills and experience will be crucial to the success of the team in 2016. “Re-signing Jodi has always been a priority for me and I’m really looking forward to working with her again,” she explained. “Her experience and leadership skills provide us with the stability needed to complement the youth and exuberance of both Ameliaranne and Maia.
“She has worked really hard over the last couple of seasons to increase her shooting volume and accuracy. The amount of work she does outside the circle is often unseen. Jodi is a very clever player, with deft passing skills and ability to see space. She has become a one of New Zealand’s premier shooters and it is fantastic to have her re-signing with us for 2016.”
Although Dearns has a preference for the squad to be based in Wellington throughout the ANZ Championship campaign, she does not see an issue with the mother of two continuing to travel from her family home in Dunedin.
“I am the first to acknowledge Jodi manages the commuting extremely well and our intention is for her to be in Wellington for all the team stuff, returning to Dunedin and her family on the days we don’t have team commitments. She is the ultimate professional athlete, prepares fully and is always working hard off court,” added Dearns.
Brown has enjoyed her first year with the Pulse and has always been committed to resigning with the team. She is particularly looking forward to working with the young shooters in the squad, something she is passionate about. “The Pulse have not only been extremely cooperative over the last few months, but they have also been very patient while I’ve been working through the World Cup.
“I’ve been looking forward to returning to the Pulse. There’s a new direction, new coach and a new team. I’m also really excited about working alongside the young players and hope I can contribute to their development,” said Brown.
The full Mojo Pulse squad for 2016 is as follows: Jodi Brown, Katrina Grant, Phoenix Karaka, Blaze Leslie, Jacinta Messer, Samon Nathan, Chelsea Pitman, Elias Shadrock, Whitney Souness, Ameliaranne Wells, Kate Wells and Maia Wilson.
