Countdown to Db Export Banked Slalom 2015 Next Saturday
The DB Export Banked Slalom returns to Treble Cone Ski Area this coming Saturday the 22nd of August. A snowboarding
competition unlike any other in New Zealand, and true to the roots of the sport itself, Treble Cone’s Banked Slalom is
history in the making and remains open to entries down to the day.
Dating back to 1985 Banked Slalom is considered the predecessor to Boardercross, and has been championed by some of the
biggest names in the history of snowboarding; right down to Tommy Sims himself. At Treble Cone we base our event on the
proud tradition of the legendary Banked Slalom of Mt. Baker, Washington State, USA where it all began.
The 2015 event offers a $2000 cash prize pool, including $750 cash for each of the fastest overall male, and the fastest
overall female. There is a further $250 cash for the runners up and spot prizes including a Never Summer snowboard.
With the mass of recent snow and great conditions in the Saddle Basin at Treble Cone, the venue is literally taking
great shape. Fantastic natural halfpipe “Shooter” is set to host the course, subject to the best conditions on the day.
All entrants will be offered a course inspection, followed by two timed runs with their fastest entered as their final
result before it’s time to crack open a cold one.
The DB Export Banked Slalom attracts a solid turn out of local riders from Treble Cone and other Southern Lakes ski
areas, along with international riders visiting our great region for training and freeriding. Proud champions span from
Slopestyle golden girl Christy Prior; winner of the 2015 Burton European Open, to Quintin Robbins; New Zealand’s first
international snowboard titleholder, competing since 1990.
Treble Cone won New Zealand’s Best Ski Resort in 2013 and again in 2014 at the World Ski Awards, and is easily
accessible from Wanaka and Queenstown. We look forward to hosting new athletes and media partners at this year’s event.
