Top violinist Henning Kraggerud steps in

Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra (APO) regrets to announce that German violinist Viviane Hagner has cancelled her scheduled appearance with the APO in October, citing family health reasons.

The APO sends its best wishes to Ms Hagner and her family, and we look forward to inviting her back in the future.

Despite this misfortune, the APO is pleased to announce that outstanding Norwegian violinist Henning Kraggerud has been secured as the replacement for Ms Hagner in the New Zealand Herald Premier Series concert ‘Virtuoso Violin’ on Thursday 8 October. Hailed by The Telegraph as having “an extraordinary sweetness of tone”, Kraggerud is an established favourite amongst European audiences, and performs in New Zealand for the first time in this concert.

Born in Oslo in 1973, Mr Kraggerud is a recipient of Norway’s prestigious Grieg Prize and in 2007 was awarded the Sibelius Prize for his interpretations and recordings of Sibelius’ music. Mr Kraggerud is a Professor at the Barratt-Due music conservatoire in Oslo, and since 2011 he has been co-Artistic Director of the Risør Festival of Chamber Music. In September 2012, he took up the post of Artistic Director of the Arctic Philharmonic.

With his strong commitment to chamber music, Mr Kraggerud performs both on violin and viola at major festivals and venues, and he has appeared with orchestras including the Hallé, Oslo Philharmonic, Toronto and Cincinnati Symphony orchestras. He made his debut with the London Philharmonic in 2010, and at the Hollywood Bowl with the Los Angeles Philharmonic in 2012.

“We are delighted to get a violinist of Henning Kraggerud’s stature at short notice, and to be able to fulfil the concert title ‘Virtuoso Violin’ with a true virtuoso,” says Barbara Glaser, Chief Executive of APO.

The concert programme on 8 October will remain as advertised, with Mr Kraggerud performing Bruch’s Violin Concerto No.1. Concert details can be found on the APO website apo.co.nz.
Ends.
