Bostock New Zealand Nurtures Growth of National Event
New Zealand’s largest edible
gardening show has been given a huge boost with the
announcement of a new naming sponsor.
Local Hawke’s Bay grower, John Bostock is getting in behind the Bostock New Zealand Edible garden show and aims to grow the event.
“The Bostock New Zealand Edible Garden Show fits well with our company values and philosophy. We grow healthy, superior tasting produce and have a proud history of sustainable production.
“We are all about, clean and pure, working together as a community to protect our land for future generations and this is what this show promotes.
“We need to support events in Hawke’s Bay which bring the community together and educate the wider public about growing healthy fruit and vegetables.,” said Mr Bostock.
Bigger crowds are expected this year with over 8000 people expected through the gates at Waikoko Gardens at the Hawke’s Bay Showgrounds on September 12 and 13.
Hawke’s Bay A&P Society Business Development Manager, Hillary Riches says she welcomes the new partnership with Bostock New Zealand because without the support of key sponsors the event couldn’t take place.
“Bostock New Zealand’s support allows the wider brand of Hawke’s Bay to shine. It’s an obvious partnership because Bostock New Zealand has a proud history of sustainable growing practices in Hawke’s Bay.”
Bostock New Zealand grows, packs and markets high
quality squash, onions, grain and organic apples and employs
up to 500 staff in the peak of the season.
Mr Bostock is
very supportive of gardening and is trying to encourage more
people in the community to grow their own produce.
Bostock New Zealand is working to achieve this through supporting the Flaxmere community gardens, which were requested by the community after a series of violent events, as a way to come together and get to know each other.
“The garden has been successful and provided an improved spirit within the community. It shows how gardening can bring families together and improve our social issues. Families participate on a variety of levels, including learning how to grow and care for plants, the sharing of ideas along with the fruits of their labour, and how to give back to their community,” said Mr Bostock.
On top of this community initiative Bostock New Zealand has also recently built the Bostock Organic Kitchen, where its staff can eat subsidised healthy organic food.
“We are a country that has major issues with poor diet, obesity and sugar, but we can help that by giving people lessons and opportunities to learn new, exciting and interesting ways to eat healthily,” says Mr Bostock.
The Bostock New Zealand Edible Garden Show is a free event which will appeal to everyone from seasoned gardeners to complete novices, enthusiastic cooks, lifestylers, families, youth and anyone who wants to embrace a healthier way of living.
It encapsulates four key elements including food, gardening, animals and landscaping. There will be a range of great entertainment as well as educational opportunities with workshops, presentations, competitions and the opportunity to mix and mingle with experts within these fields.
