Poroporoaki to Anzac Pikia
From Te Whakaruruhau o Nga Reo Irirangi Maori
Katanuku katanuku
Katanuku katanuku
Katanuku koa te tihi o te maunga
Katanuku eee!
E te rangatira Anzac,
Kua oti kē tou pakanga kua oti kē tou mamae.
Takahia atu ra i te ara whānui o Tāne
Haere ke atu ki a raatou maa kua whetuurangihia
Haere ki o taatou tuupuna, ki reira takoto maarika ai.
Na raatou te ara i whakatakoto, hei hiikoitanga ma taatou, ma nga uri whakatupu.
No reira e te rangatira
Nei ano ra te mihi poroporoaki ki a koe
Ko koe tētehi o nga tino tauira ki a maatou o Te Whakaruruhau o Nga Reo Irirangi. He pouri hoki no maatou ki to wehenga atu.
Kua paangia koe e te ringa kaha o Aituaa, tee taea atu te karo.
No reira e te tuakana, haere, haere, haere atu ra.
It is with much sadness that Te Whakaruruhau the Iwi Maori Radio Network acknowledges the passing of Anzac Pikia. Although Anzac did not work with us on Maori Radio we on Whakaruruhau had no doubts about his commitment to Te Reo Maori. Anzac was one of Maori broadcastings young stars, a champion of the Reo and Kapa Haka but probably more importantly a champion young man who was a good friend to many of us who are involved in Maori broadcasting. Anzac made a unique contribution to our language he was a classy presenter on TVNZ’s Te Karere and his presence will now sadly be missed on our TV screens. We are still shocked by his sudden death, but we will never forget the commitment, drive and support he had for our language and culture.
Te Whakaruruhau wish his whanau all the very best at this very, very sad time.
No reira Anzac, moe mai ra
Willie Jackson
Chairman of Te Whakaruruhau o Nga Reo Irirangi Maori
