Shona Hammond Boys wins World Children’s Festival Award
New Zealand Children’s Art House Foundation founder and director Shona Hammond Boys was announced as the winner of the World Children's Festival Award in Washington D.C.
Shona Hammond Boys has been in Washington D.C. at the festival representing New Zealand and presenting her book and associated short film ‘Oku Moe Moea – The dream which is bigger than I am’.
Her publisher and agent, Michael Smith of BMS Books Ltd, said the award was a highlight for the now Opotiki-based Hammond Boys, who has worked for 50 years to provide children with greater creative opportunities. There were 85 countries represented and she was chosen as the winner for her work with children around the world, including her work in New Zealand. The announcements was made at the festival banquet dinner.
Smith is also working with the author to sell and distribute the short film. The film and book featured at the World Children's Art Festival in Washington D.C., where the film was also shown at a special function at the New Zealand Embassy.
The book has had a strong impact on readers so it has been decided to provide purchasers with a product code enabling them to access the film, Smith says.
“Purchasers of the book include many schools and agencies, so we have decided to give them the opportunity to utilise the downloaded version for screening to classes, PTA meetings and staff groups.”
Book buyers will be provided with a one-time product code enabling them to also access the film. Wider distribution and display options exist and these can be discussed with BMS.
For those who only want to obtain the short film, two options are available. Users can choose either the option of viewing the film on their devices, or downloading for screening at their leisure. The cost has been kept at a nominal rate of 99 cents for the viewing option and $4.99 for the download.
