Mes and Walker Re-Signings Boost Tactix Squad for 2016
3 July 2015
The Mainland Tactix are resolute in keeping the core of 2015 team together with the announcement today of Silver Fern Bailey Mes and NZA defender Zoe Walker recommitting for the 2016 season.
Mainland Netball CEO Brigit Hearn says the total number of re-signings is now at six with Mes and Walker joining Malawian import Mwai Kumwenda, mid-courter Nicola Mackle, versatile shooter Gemma Hazeldine and new recruit Olivia Coughlan.
“What we are seeing is commitment from our players to return to the Tactix in recognition of the culture, support services and high performance coaching offered here in the Mainland,” Hearn said. “We are determined to continue to build on the combinations established in 2015 by retaining a core group of players to work with and develop for 2016.”
Bailey Mes will play her second season for the Tactix after moving to Christchurch from Auckland after five seasons with the SKYCITY Mystics. The 26 year old has been named in the Silver Ferns team to play at the Netball World Cup in August.
Mes has shown steady improvement over the season with her accuracy rates continuing to advance. Her combination with Kumwenda has developed over the 2015 season under the tutelage of coach Sue Hawkins.
Zoe Walker will play her third season with the Mainland team in 2016, the 21 year old defender continuing to make solid progress in what is the world’s most competitive netball league, the ANZ Championship.
Named in the NZA team to play in Sydney before the Netball World Cup SYDNEY 2015, Walker was outstanding in the three day trials, one of four players to make the NZA team outside the Silver Ferns Squad and National Development Squad.
The Tactix have now confirmed six players on their 2016 roster: Malawian import Mwai Kumwenda, Bailey Mes, Nicola Mackle, Gemma Hazeldine, Olivia Coughlan and Zoe Walker.
