Workshops for cancer patients to receive boost
Volunteer makeup artists helping cancer survivors are set to receive customisable beautifying kits this week, thanks to a donation of hundreds of boxes from local company Sistema Plastics.
The boxes will be used to easily organise and transport makeup and skincare products to Look Good Feel Better workshops, held in 31 cities and community centres nationwide.
Demand for the charity’s services is at its highest, as every day 60 Kiwis are diagnosed with cancer. The charity provides free workshops for women and men dealing with the gruelling side effects of their treatment.
Look Good Feel Better’s general manager Clare O’Higgins is grateful for the donation.
“We’re about to launch our annual awareness and fundraising campaign Feel Better Month this July, and random acts of kindness like this remind us that people are taking note of the service we provide to cancer sufferers within our community,” says Clare.
“When women come to us, they’re often at a low point in their life, in terms of appearance and motivation. Our workshops aim to change that. Just this past year, we’ve transformed the look and outlook of more than 3,000 women with cancer, giving them the confidence to enjoy life.
“We’ve also recently opened up our workshops to men, as the effects of cancer can drain them and wreak havoc with their skin too.”
Sistema Plastics director Wendell Phillips handed over the boxes to Clare and her team this week, which are now heading across the country, ready to be turned into the team’s beauty kits.
“We’re always happy to help out people making a difference in our community,” says Wendell, “and are pleased to be able to support Look Good Feel Better this time around. I’m sure they will put our plastic boxes to good use.”
