The South of France to host The Classic All Blacks.
Rugby mad Toulon stands by to welcome a line-up of legendary rugby superstars during the 2015 Rugby World Cup in October.
The town will celebrate its rugby heritage and remember past player Jerry Collins who has played for both teams when they host a match between the Classic All Blacks and their 3 Times European Cup winning Team. The match will be held at the Stade Mayol in Toulon on October 7th . The match is expected to attract locals and rugby fans from far and wide.
President of Rugby Club Toulonnais, Mr Mourad Boudjellal said “The Club, the town and the whole region are extremely proud and delighted to welcome the Classic All Blacks, such a legendary team, to Stade Mayol. I am sure the All Black Haka on this day will remember Jerry Collins with great emotion and so will we. Fans from around the world will witness two heavyweight rugby institutions competing against one another in the heart of Toulon”
Tom Whitford, Manager of RC Toulon, says Toulon fans are excited about the match, “We’re passionate about rugby and very proud to host this match and as the game is on a Wednesday between two All Black World Cup games it will be a great opportunity for New Zealand fans following the All Blacks to spend a couple of days in the South of France. A perfect recipe for a great rugby occasion and a match I’m sure both teams would like to win”.
Andy Haden, President of the Classic All Blacks, said “The Classic All Blacks will include many great All Black names currently playing overseas. They are players who are no longer contracted to New Zealand rugby and the Toulon team will feature many of the players who were part of the only team to have won the European Cup 3 times. When New Zealand plays France the matches are always exciting. There is always passion and flair and I’m sure this game will be no different. We want to remember Jerry Collins well on this historic day”.
The Classic All Blacks last took on an International side when joining Fiji to Celebrate their centenary in 2013. “Jerry wore the #8 Jersey for us in that match in Suva and my guess is Chris Masoe might want to get his hands on the jersey for this match and play for his mate” said Haden.
The Classic All Black team will
invite players from a list that includes recent All
Blacks:
Carl Hayman, Ali Williams, Chris Masoe, Rudi
Wolfe, John Afoa, Corey Flynn, Andrew Hore, Brad Thorne,
Adam Thompson, Daniel Braid, Joe Rococoko, Sitiveni
Sivivatu, Anthony Tuitavake, Sam Tuitoupou, Nemia Tialata,
Simone Taumoepeau, Nick Evans, Tom Donnolly, Jason Eaton,
Mike Delaney, Luke McAlistair, Richard Kahui, Mils Muliaina
and others.
The event is being organised by
Rugby Club Toulonnais in association with
the Classic All Blacks who will play in
jerseys specially designed by Vintage
Spirit, a French company that has the
international licence for the Classic All Black brand. The
