How low will they grow: Four burly men on Hastings City Assist team are growing their beards for seven months – then shave them off as part of the Child Cancer Foundation’s annual fundrazor, in support of the Child Cancer Foundation which helps children with cancer and their families.
From left, Chris Bartlett, BJ Pui, James Haronga and Mike Godinet, take a guess at how much growth they will get by the time the 29 weeks is up. Some are more confident than others.
The council staff members, who spend their working day patrolling the city centre to keep it safe, have the backing of Hastings District Council, the Child Cancer Foundation and the central city retailers.
In November a local barber will “shear” off their manes in town square.
Team member Mike Godinet said they had “all known someone who has been through this journey, some more closely than others, and would like to do their bit.”
They had already attracted amazing support, By Friday (19/6/2015) the public had donated $700 towards their $5000 target.
