3 Mad Fiddlers and the Odd Singer!
24 Venues Nationwide: 6 July – 6 August 2015.
The brilliant fiddler Marian Burns leads the line-up in Operatunity’s toe-tapping concert 3 Mad Fiddlers and the Odd Singer! The concert will be filled with superb fiddle playing and a variety of music to amaze and delight you. Marian will be burning up the strings along with two extremely talented young fiddle players; Vanessa Harvey and Michaela Roy. There will also be the chance to join the “two odd singers”, Susan Boland and John Cameron, in singing well-loved melodies including When the Red Red Robin, Pack Up Your Troubles and She’ll be Coming Round the Mountain.
Marian will warm you up on a cold winter’s day with her infectious energy in a concert full of variety – from furiously fast fiddle playing to beautiful traditional melodies. It is difficult to describe Marian’s fun and vitality; she transforms a quiet audience into a smiling, laughing, foot-tapping group of people, swept up in her exuberance and passion for music. She is a frequent performer and recording artist, and has a long list of awards including a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Australian Golden Fiddle Awards.

Marian has taken two young performers under her wing – Michaela Roy and Vanessa Harvey. They met at kindergarten, and when Michaela turned up one day with her new violin, Vanessa was determined to have one of her own! They started lessons with the same violin teacher when they were five and later began having lessons with Marian. They have been entering music competitions together over the past four years and this year their duo, Tangled Strings, won the Senior Instrumental Section of the New Zealand Gold Guitar Awards.
John Cameron and Susan Boland are a husband and wife team who founded Operatunity and who also sing together! Operatunity provides quality music to the public while employing incredible NZ singers and performers. Susan and John have both enjoyed many years of singing: Susan as a professional singer as in a range of musical styles; and John taking lead roles in musical theatre productions and Gilbert and Sullivan shows. John also has a great love of sentimental ballads and timeless classics!
