BONEY M – Live in NZ!
With multiple sellout shows and rave reviews from their last outing, Euro Pop superstarsBONEY M (Feat. Maizie Williams) are back performing all of their Greatest Hits for an exclusive show in Auckland at ASB Theatre, Friday 30th October.
Their amazing run of chart-topping singles and relentless touring schedule established Boney M as a genuine pop super group in the 70s and 80s. Their high energy, sing along shows feature outrageous costumes and a wicked live disco-funk backing band, for an out of this world experience.
Boney M’s insanely catchy songs gave them an amazing run of chart success in New Zealand. Their first single “Daddy Cool” went to Number 15 and the follow up “Sunny”also made the Top 20. “Ma Baker” almost topped the charts, going all the way to Number 2 in 1977. The following year they went on to achieve a remarkable feat - The double A-side “Rivers of Babylon” with “Brown Girl In The Ring” went to Number 1and spent a record breaking 14 weeks at Number 1! – The longest ever for a single until last year when Pharrell Williams “Happy spent” 15 weeks. The disco stomper“Rasputin” (aka Russia’s Greatest Love Machine). Boney M became massive in the clubs, at parties and all over the airwaves and gave them another Top 5 smash hit. They were bigger than KC and the Sunshine Band, Earth Wind and Fire and Chic! Their NZ chart domination continued with 2 more Top 10 singles “Mary’s Boy Child”, and sing along anthem "Hooray! Hooray! It's a Holi-Holiday”.
Boney M’s music has never been more popular in recent years, with Lady Gagasampling “Ma Baker” for her international number 1 hit “Poker Face”, and dance duoDuck Sauce sampling “Gotta Go Home” in their dance floor smash “Barbra Streisand”.
“Eye-popping costumes, gravelly spoken bits, big-lunged divas singing outrageously catchy nonsense – everyone from Snap! to the Black Eyed Peas has used this formula and they all owe a debt to Boney M.” (The Guardian)
Making a balance-sheet after 10 Years, Frank Farian counted 18 Platinum and 15 Gold-LPs, more than 200 Gold and Platinum-Singles and about 150 Million sold Units all over the world. By the end of the 80's Farian put out a new edition of Boney M onto the Market. In the end of 1992 they had a Top-10-Hit in UK with a Mega-Mix of their old Numbers.
After selling millions of records to an adoring fan base and a mind blowing collection of disco and pop super hits, the Boney M phenomenon has been growing by the decade. Always fun and perfect for the dance floor, Boney M are one of the most beloved bands to emerge from that iconic era. So strap on your dancing shoes, Boney M are back bigger, better and more outrageous than ever. This will truly be a fun night to remember.
