The Rev. Bob Scott - In the Middle of It - AKL

The Rev. Bob Scott - In the Middle of It - AKL

Wed 24 June

The Rev. Bob Scott talking about his life and work in conjunction with the publication of his autobiography, 'In the Middle of it; Faithful, Radical, Gay, Story-teller'.

Bob Scott's ministry as an Anglican priest in New Zealand for over fifty years has him also at work in London, at the United Nations in Geneva and New York and finally on the staff of the World Council of Churches in Geneva for fourteen years. He writes of some crucial human rights and ecumenical struggles, both in New Zealand and around the world.

There are narratives here that have never been told before, such as his collaboration with New Zealand Prime Minister Norman Kirk during the period before the 1973 Springbok rugby tour of New Zealand was called off.

His stories come from inside the offices of prime ministers and presidents, protest leaders and activists, the church and the unchurched. He writes of his relationship with the Dalits in India, commonly known as the Untouchables, and his focus on combatting racism and human rights advocacy.

As a gay man he gives his commentary on the struggles of gays within the Church and the challenges facing the churches in reforming their practice and attitudes towards gay people.. Known for his skill at story-telling he now puts his pen to story- writing.
