Ousted Kōhanga trustee to give Native Affairs exclusive
An exclusive interview with former Te Kōhanga Reo National Trust board member Toni Waho will be broadcast on Native Affairs next Monday, June 15 at 8.30pm.
The interview comes two years after Native Affairs’ investigation into the trust, which launched a wave of official inquiries, audits and reviews.
Waho was removed from the board last year after he blew the whistle over allegations of questionable spending and mismanagement.
Native Affairs will also host a live discussion on the future of the Kōhanga reo movement and the survival of the Māori language.
Māori Television’s head of news and current affairs, Maramena Roderick, says it is valid to consider what has occurred and it is also important to ask what is happening now and into the future.
“Ensuring tamariki are receiving the best education and support in their language learning was, is and always will be a priority. We should always ask the questions that safeguard and promote the survival of the Māori language.”
Native Affairs, Mondays at 8.30pm.
