{Suite} is pleased to present an exhibition of works by Ans Westra in celebration of the artist’s recent award of an honorary doctorate from Massey University in Wellington.
The black and white images in this exhibition were made between 1963 and 1998, the earliest being an image made in Tonga for Westra’s first book, Viliami of the Friendly Islands. There are three images made for Washday at the Pa, and from the early 1970s, a portrait of James K. Baxter.
Also included is an image made in Lower Hutt that was part of Ans' submission when she won the Commonwealth Photography Prize in 1986, and an image made in 1998 as part of a series titled Washday at the Pa Revisited.
