Sundance Sell-out Foxy Feminist comedy premieres in New Zealand
The Auckland Women’s Centre is proudly bringing the first screening of hilarious lesbian buddy comedy ‘The Foxy Merkins’ to the Capitol Cinema later this month.
This buddy comedy, which was very popular with overseas audiences and a sell-out at the Melbourne Queer Film Festival is screening for the first time in New Zealand on the 21st of June at the Capitol Cinema.
The award-winning filmmaker Madeleine Olnek, director of Codependent Lesbian Space Alien Seeks Same, has teamed up with Lisa Haas and Jackie Monahan to produce another hilarious lesbian comedy which is sure to be popular with New Zealand audiences.
The Foxy Merkins is an exciting alternative to regular cinema- a hilarious combination of documentary style confessions with the cleverly scripted puns of the protagonists.
Peter Knegt of INDIEWIRE calls The Foxy Merkins “downright hilarious” and names it one of “10 great LGBT Films From This Year’s Sundance Film Festival”.
The Foxy Merkins follows a successful premiere of Vessel in March, bringing women-directed indie films to New Zealand and creating a space for alternative cinema.
This event is part of The Auckland Women's Centre's fundraising activities to ensure its continued support for the empowerment of women. To buy tickets, call 09 376 3227 or email info@womenz.org.nz.
