The Return Season of the 2014 Young and Hungry sensation. Last year, Director Kerryn Palmer brought the youthful dark comedy to life at Wellington’s Bats Theatre as part of the 2014 Young and Hungry Festival of New Theatre, and she is thrilled to bring the show to the professional theatre this year with more excitement and energy than ever.

Second Afterlife is a dark comedy about life (and death) in the digital age. Inspired by Dante’s Inferno, and in the tradition of Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, it is a twisted allegory for the Facebook generation – a poetic, ass-kicking romp to the darkest corners of the web. The play follows the character of Dan; an Internet junkie that is calling it quits. But in order to forge a new profile, he must go head to head with his own online history. As he finds himself sucked into the Second Afterlife, the dark underworld of the Internet, a very real and dangerous landscape of broken memes, deleted pages and the ghosts of profiles past confront him. In order to forge a new identity, Dan has to face up to his past profiles : the Bebo emo, Warcraft gamer, and NZ Dating's Casanova. They’re cooler, savvier, and shot from more flattering angles. And they’re not going down without a fight.

To play these delightfully crazy characters Palmer and co-director Ryan Knighton have cast a team of talented young Wellington actors mostly from Victoria University, some of whom played their roles in the Young and Hungry season last year. The actors work together to provide believable characters while simultaneously being laugh out loud hilarious.

Kerryn Palmer said “One of the main reasons we want to put this show on at Circa Theatre is to give these talented actors and designers a go at performing on a professional stage, it will be a great opportunity for them.”

This show is a must see event for anyone in the capital this June. Like surfing the web, there is something for everyone to enjoy, from the physical comedy and witty dialogue, to the nostalgia, and live music.
