Neighbourly.Co.NZ’S a Big Kid Now
The balloons are up and the cheerios and rainbow bread are ready; New Zealand’s first free and private neighbourhood website Neighbourly.co.nz is turning one.
Since launching in June 2014, Neighbourly.co.nz has grown to a membership of more than 120,000 households across 1,700 neighbourhoods around the country.
Neighbourly.co.nz co-founder Casey Eden says he’s amazed at the impact the site is already having in New Zealand neighbourhoods.
“The stories we hear every day as a result of neighbours connecting on the site are unbelievably uplifting,” he says. “From street and neighbourhood dinner parties, pets reunited with owners, community garden groups up-and-running, tradies picking up new work thanks to recommendations, and neighbours banding together to provide food and clothing for needy families; the site was designed to draw communities together and we definitely feel we’re on the right track.”
Eden says the year ahead is set to be an exciting one with new features including a business platform, a skills and interests bank, and a Home Contents Locker sponsored by AMI.
“Neighbourly’s new business platform will be our biggest site update since launch which is pretty exciting stuff," he says. "It'll allow local businesses to share news with those who live in their neighbourhood. For example tradespeople, such as builders and plumbers, can look for new customers, cafes and restaurants could share new menus, and retail outlets, such as bookshops, can increase their local profile.”
Eden acknowledges the site’s success has been thanks to support from a family of great corporate partners as well as Neighbourly Leads, key members of each neighbourhood who donate a little time each week to support their communities on the site.
“Neighbourly’s success hinges on key people within our neighbourhoods, not just our staff behind the scenes," he adds. "We have 1,200 Leads all over the country working to make a difference to their communities; these are the people who have seen Neighbourly as a tool to make positive change in their neighbourhoods, and have pushed their neighbours to sign up and get involved too.”
To celebrate Neighbourly’s first birthday, AMI and Neighbourly.co.nz are giving away $500 worth of Noel Leeming vouchers to three lucky members from Tuesday 2 June. For more information and to sign up to Neighbourly, visit www.neighbourly.co.nz.
