NEW ZEALAND COMMUNITY TRUST CHAMBER MUSIC CONTEST
Almost 1800 young musicians from around New Zealand are tuning up ready to compete in the annual New Zealand Community Trust Chamber Music Contest.
Fifteen district contests are held nationwide during June to select the top 12 ensembles who will compete in the National Finals in Wellington in August. This year the Contest has attracted 476 ensembles of between three and eight musicians, including 19 octets. The largest District Contest is held in Auckland where it takes five days from Wednesday 3 June for all 115 ensembles to perform.
Celebrating its 50th Jubilee this year, The New Zealand Community Trust Chamber Music Contest is the longest running youth music competition in New Zealand and is the only nationwide chamber music competition for young musicians and composers. As well as organising the Contest, Chamber Music New Zealand also arranges coaching and open workshops for ensembles.
This year, Chamber Music New Zealand has introduced a Regional Finals round to the Contest. The top 12 ensembles from each of the three regions – North, Central and South – will compete again onSaturday 20 and Sunday 21 June in Auckland, Napier and Christchurch and the top 12 ensembles from the Regional Finals will then compete in the National Finals on Saturday 1 and Sunday 2 August in Wellington.

PAULINE GROGAN: SONGS OF LIFE
From nun to mum to drama queen, Aucklander Pauline Grogan has led an extraordinary life – now, at 70 years young, she’s turned her hand to songwriting and is launching her album with a special concert in Auckland in June.
Together with jazz pianist Ben Fernandez, Pauline performs Songs of Life at The PumpHouse Theatre, Takapuna in Auckland on Saturday 6 June – her 70th birthday.
A Catholic nun for 12 years, then married and a mum to four children, Pauline is well-known for her book Beyond The Veil and her solo autobiographical theatre show 500 Letters, but she says she never expected to add songwriting to her list of achievements, saying the songs came to her while she was going through a tough time.
The songs come from Pauline's many experiences and tell of love, loss, friendship and live. Musician Ben Fernandez helped Pauline bring her lyrics and melody to life and together they have recorded an album and created a special book which they are launching in June with this one night only concert.

DANCE THEATRE
WHITE FACE CREW: DOUBLE DERELICTS
Share the joy and tomfoolery of the award winning White Face Crew in a superbly choreographed show, involving couch leaping, shoe stealing, and good old fashioned clowning around. Created and performed by Justin Haiu, Tupua Tigafua and Jarod Rawiri, Double Derelicts will amuse and impress. Fun for the whole family.
Two colourful street characters go head to head in a city park. What begins as a hilarious duet turns into a charming tale when a gloomy businessman interrupts their daily routine. Will his dark clouds engulf them or can they turn his frown upside down? This is top notch physical theatre and dance from Auckland-based White Face Crew.

TAKI RUA PRESENTS: NGĀ POU WAHINE
It's been 20 years since Ngā Pou Wahine was first brought to the stage by Taki Rua Productions in what was a watershed moment in the career of one of our most prolific Māori writers, Briar Grace-Smith. Taki Rua is remounting the play for limited seasons in Wellington, Auckland, Whangarei and Kaitaia during Matariki 2015.
Ngā Pou Wahine brings to life the journey of a young, working class wahine, as she discovers her true spirit through the fabulous stories of her whānau and the dramatic history of her ancestor, Waiora. Grace-Smith perfectly balances drama with humour as Te Atakura weaves together these stories, past and present, to discover the truth about her family and the strength of her ancestors.
