Hemi Ahio won by unimounous points decision against dangerous veteran, Junior Iakopo at West Auckland’s Trust’s Arena last night.
This is despite fears earlier in the week by his coach Lollo Heimuli that Hemi may need to withdraw from the fundraiser due to a hand injury.
Ahio's promoter John McRae said “We’ll take the win but with his hand injury Hemi was holding back. Hemi has a great future ahead of him and a growing fan base and he didn't want to disappoint them so he boxed on. We would have loved to have seen his signature knock out but we are just as happy with the experience he got from the rounds. ”
It was however still a dominant win by Ahio that saw him hurt Iakopo in every round. Ahio dropped Iakopo in rounds 2 and 3 in a fight that saw Iakopu holding on to survive for most of the fight.
Iakopo has fought the biggest punchers in Australasia and holds notable upset wins over, former NZNBF Champion and Joseph Parker opponent, Afa Tatupu, OPBF Heavyweight Champion, Nathan Briggs and Hasim Rahman conqueror, Antz Nansen.
Hemi Ahi’s record is now 6(KO 4) + lost 0 (KO 0) + drawn 0.
Ahio was the headline fight for Monty Betham Steps for Life Fight against Obesity.
