In Conversation: Roger Hall and Arthur Meek
In Conversation: Roger Hall and Arthur Meek, 24 May at 4pm
Each month during winter, usually the last Sunday in the month, two writers will come together for a discussion about their craft. Most of the events will be held at the Michael King Writers' Centre, although some may take place at other venues so please check the details.
The Michael King Writers' Centre is delighted to present playwrights Roger Hall and Arthur Meek in the first of this year's winter series of In Conversation events.
Roger Hall and Arthur Meek will be in conversation at the Michael King Writers' Centre on Sunday May 24, at 4pm.
Roger Hall needs no introduction. NZ’s most successful playwright, he is best known for comedies with a social bite. He began writing for television before hitting the local and international stage in the 1970s and 1980s, with the playsGlide Timeand Middle-Age Spread. He has won numerous awards for his work in theatre and his contribution to many of the country’s literary organisations. In recent years, his plays Who Wants to be 100? (Anyone Who's 99), Four Flat Whites in Italy, and A Shortcut to Happiness have had hugely successful runs throughout New Zealand.
Arthur Meek is one of the most exciting new voices in NZ theatre. He has written a wide range of work for stage, screen and radio, from satire and comedy, to history and drama. He has worked as an actor at several major theatre companies in the country. His historical play On The Upside Down of the World garnered rave reviews at Auckland Theatre Company before touring extensively. Last year ATC premiered his latest work Trees Beneath the Lake, a family drama ranging from the impact of the building of the Clyde Dam to contemporary financial culture. He held a residency at the Michael King Writers’ Centre, before living in New York as the third recipient of the prestigious Harriet Friedlander residency.
Join Roger and Arthur for a relaxed conversation over a glass of wine at the Michael King Writers’ Centre. Places will be limited, so bookings are recommended.
