Dunedin Fringe 2016 Dates Announced
The Dunedin Fringe Festival 2016 will take place over 11 days from Thursday 3rd to Sunday 13th March. The festival dates are strategically selected to work alongside other Dunedin events as well as align with other fringe festivals around Australasia.
“Positioning Dunedin Fringe dates to follow those of the Adelaide, Perth, Auckland and Wellington (New Zealand Fringe) festivals allows artists the ability to tour between festivals non-stop and consequently reduce the overheads associated with getting a show up and running.” said Dunedin Fringe Director Josh Thomas. “The fringe circuit also allows festivals to work together and share resources and media attention,” he added.
The first Dunedin Fringe was held September and October 2000. Initially a biennial event alongside the then named Otago Festival of the Arts, in 2008 the Fringe became an annual fixture on Dunedin’s cultural landscape.
Dunedin Fringe 2016 will be the 13th in the city and ranks the festival as the second oldest in the country alongside NZ Fringe which began in 1990.
