One Week until the Big Screen Lights up with
Documentary Edge Festival!
With one week
until the opening of the highly anticipated 10th Documentary
Edge, the Festival is pleased to confirm further directors
in attendance, announce the topics of the popular DOC Talks,
introduce the latest in immersive screening technology and
announce the final changes to the scheduled screenings.
Stefan Moore and Susan Lambert the Directors of Tyke Elephant Outlaw and Andrew Goldman Director of The Desk will be joining Pras Michel, Karyn Rachtman and Ben Patterson (Sweet Micky for President) Maya Newell (Gayby Baby), Lyric R. Cabral((T)ERROR), Violeta Ayala and Dan Fallshaw (The Bolivian Case), Mark Helenowski(For Grace)and Erik Greenberg Anjou (Deli Man) in New Zealand for the Festival. Also in attendance will be subject Larry Edelson, protagonist of The Forecaster and this year’s recipient of the Documentary Edge International Documentary Superhero, Chris McDonald, President of Toronto’s Hot Docs.
The festival is happy to announce a stellar line up of subject driven and industry-led talks, free to the public at Q Theatre’s Vault. Documentary is designed to stimulate debate – which is exactly what DOC Talks will be doing this year. Topics range from the future of documentaries and NZ funding, to Asian participation in the Media. There will also be talks with Fugees founder Pras Michel about his film, Sweet Micky for President,Maya Newell with the Executive Producer of Gayby Baby, Lyric R. Cabral from(T)ERROR on the concept of surveillance versus freedom, and Larry Edelson from The Forecaster, on the economics of forecasting. Also new this year is the festival’s interactive and immersive strand, Story Edge will be introduced at Screen Edge Forum. No longer restricted to only traditional platforms such as the 2D screen, Documentary Edge is excited to launch the latest strategy to develop and exhibit transmedia and digital storytelling. In partnership with the NZ Film Commission and CoLab AUT, Story Edge will screen the film CODE: Debugging the Gender Gap and the immersive documentary CLOUDS at the AUT Campus. The highly anticipated and widely acclaimed exhibition will plunge viewers into an immersive world where they interact with the story content through the use of Oculus Rift headsets. A couple of changes have been made to this year’s screenings; new screening times have been added for Andrew Goldman’s The Desk (starring broadcaster Paul Henry),including a new sneak preview on opening night of the festival, 5.30pm. Of Men and Waris no longer screening in the festival. The time slots will instead be filled with Doc Edge Mystery Film - a screening that will either be one of the award winners or a film back by popular demand.
