Zooming into World War One in the OnTV Studio
Capital E has released Across the Trenches – a new educational OnTV programme in their popular Digital Studios. Across the Trenches has been designed for New Zealand school students to commemorate the centennial and discover lifestyle in World War One.
This brand new documentary encourages students to focus on World War One with the aim of developing an insight into the realities of the war. In their session at Capital E, they will report on life in the trenches including a closer look at how it all began and the ANZAC’s participation; the role of new technologies and the tactics of battle, the spread of disease, the camaraderie of the soldiers in the trenches, and the eventual Armistice.
During the session, students are assigned technical and creative roles toward making the documentary. Roles include Camera Operators, Wardrobe Team, Technical Producer, Sound Designer, Graphic/Digital Artist, Presenter and Performer to name a few. The students work with a Capital E Digital Tutor, aiming to create a high quality technology piece based on New Zealand history.
Capital E’s free online Education Resource is available for teachers along with provided scripts: junior (approximately Year 4 – 6) and senior (approximately Year 7 – 13).
Capital E’s Creative Technology Manager Melissa Conway says, “This new programme is an exciting leap forward into how New Zealand children remember World War One. The programme not only encourages young people to look back and reflect, but to remember this important part of history using their own creativity, latest technology and equipment.”
When schools finish their visit to Capital E’s Digital Studios, their students work is published online onto Capital E’s YouTube account.
School bookings are now available online at the Capital E website, capitale.org.nz
