2015
Digital Art Live Screen, Level 2, Aotea Centre
Tourmente (2015) is an interactive video installation created by Jean Dubois, an international recognised digital artist from Montréal, Canada. He has created a series of portraits from residents of central Montréal. These portraits reflect the diversity of people who live in any cosmopolitan city such as Auckland or Montréal.
Jean Dubois exhibition asks passersby to transform the facial reactions of the people on the screen by blowing into the microphone of their mobile phone. Depending on the intensity of exhaled breathe the displayed faces will be either be caressed by a gentle breeze or shocked by a violent gust of wind.
The artist will share his vision on his work and digital art practices during his artist talk at the opening night on Wednesday 27 May, 7pm. During his time in Auckland, he will also be taking a master class with local artists at Colab, AUT University.
Digital Art Live (DAL) is the only permanent programme in New Zealand showcasing interactive art. In 2014, the DAL programme was presented in Montréal as part of the International Marketplace for Digital Art. Exhibiting the Canadian digital art work Tourmente in Auckland will further develop the relationship between digital artists in Canada and New Zealand.
