Appointments to the Board of the Maori Television Service

E nga mana e nga reo Tena koutou katoa Tena no taatou Te Putahi Paoho is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr
Waihoroi Shortland to the board of the Maori Television Service.
Waihoroi fills the vacancy left by the recent resignation of Tahu Potiki.
He comes to the role with a wealth of experience in the industry as a programme maker, editor, producer and director.
Waihoroi is also renowned as a writer and an actor, best known for his performance in the Maori language version of
Shakespeare’s The Merchant of Venice (Te Tangata Whai Rawa) and Troilus and Cresidda which was performed at the Globe Theatre in London.
Te Tepu was his most recent television production.
For the first four years of the life of the programme he was the writer, presenter and producer.
He described the experience as an opportunity to create conversations that were sublime, the content often irreverent
and the language was easy and fluent.
Waihoroi is a native speaker.
His expertise in te reo me ona tikanga, combined with his depth of experience in the industry and his understanding of
and excitement about the digital environment and the opportunities for transforming the Maori Television Service into a
multi media organisation with responsibility for contributing to the sustainability of te reo Maori, makes him well
suited to join the governance team of MTS.
Te Putahi Paoho is also pleased to announce the reappointment of Piripi Walker to the board of the Maori Television
Service for a further 3 year term.
Piripi’s knowledge of the history of MTS and his commitment to the promotion and protection of te reo Maori me ona
tikanga through broadcasting and his experience as a journalist has added value to the role and responsibility of the
board.
