Binney artwork to be auctioned for charity
Binney artwork to be auctioned for charity
Guests at a
charity lunch in Marlborough are in for not only the food
treat of their lives but also a unique visual indulgence –
an original Don Binney artwork.
The fundraiser at Gibbs on Godfrey in Blenheim is in aid of the Kaipupu Point Sounds Wildlife Sanctuary. The Binney work was one of two created by late artist a few months before he died in September 2012 to raise funds for the sanctuary.
It is to be auctioned at the lunch where guests will dine on four courses co-prepared by Kiwi ex-pat chef Matt Lambert from New York’s outstanding Michelin-starred restaurant The Musket Room.
Lambert is ‘going wild in Marlborough’ together with head chef Bradley Hornby from Gibbs on Godfrey at the fundraiser which is supported byŌra King and the award winning Blenheim restaurant.
But don’t worry if you can’t make it to the event – absentee and phone bids on the art are welcome.
The framed artwork titled Kaipupu Point I is expected to fetch between $6,500 and $9,000 at auction. It is in colour pencil on 300gsm paper and measures 140 x 210mm (image size) and 360 x 435mm (framed).
The frame is white with an off white acid free matte, UV resistant conservation clear glass and archival materials.
Don Binney demonstrated a lifetime commitment to conservation issues and his love of the New Zealand environment, in particular our endangered birds, is well known says Ōra King general manager of marketing Jemma McCowan.
“This is a unique opportunity to secure a Binney piece while at the same time showing your support for the wonderful conservation work of the Kaipupu Point Sanctuary,” Ms McCowan says.
The artwork is on display in the lead up to the Charity Lunch at The Diversion Gallery, London Quay, Picton. It is going to be auctioned by Dick Nardella from Bayleys, at the Matt Goes Wild Pop Up Charity Event at Gibb's On Godfrey on Sunday 3 May.
Absentee and phone bids can be arranged. Interested parties should contact liz@gibbs-restaurant.co.nz. Limited tickets are also available for the luncheon.
Ōra King parent company New Zealand King Salmon has been a top level ‘Rimu Sponsor’ of the Sanctuary since November 2010 and is committed to continuing this support well into the future.
