Cashmore wraps up a successful 1st foray into US competition
Will Cashmore wraps up a successful first foray into US competition with a win.
California, USA (19 April 2015) - Auckland based ski racer Will Cashmore capped off his debut season of racing in the Northern Hemisphere with a U14 Super G race win in the USSA Far West Speed finals held at Mammoth Mountain, California yesterday. He placed second in both Super G races on Saturday as he worked up to Sunday’s final race where the young New Zealander took out the top podium spot.
This wasn’t Cashmore’s first speed series success in the US. He finished 2nd at the U14 Far West Championships Super G race held at Squaw Valley in March. Training with the Sugarbowl Academy youth racers in California was a perfect build up to the Whistler Cup races in Canada earlier this month where he skied to a 10th place in both Slalom and GS U14 Whistler Cup races.
“Being part of the New Zealand crew at Whistler was a real buzz and I’m stoked to finish my American visit with a win today, the young Kiwi enthused, it has been an amazing trip training and racing with all the guys I’ve skied with up here in the US and Canada. Thanks to Mum and Dad for making such a fantastic trip happen for me.”
Now it’s back to New Zealand and school until the winter and the NZ Youth Series kicks off again.
