A Melting Pot of Entertainment
A Melting Pot of Entertainment confirmed for the American Express Opening Party and Fireworks
(16 April, Queenstown) – The entertainment for the American Express Opening Party and Fireworks is being announced today, with Margaret Urlich, Debbie Harwood and Annie Crummer from When the Cat’s Away joining together with The Band of Gold to perform their top hits like ‘Free Ride’ and ‘Melting Pot’.
The addition of these iconic New Zealand artists to the Friday June 19 line-up sets the tone for ten days of an entertainment-packed programme, filled with concerts, comedy and street entertainers.
American Express’ Julie Nestor says that for more than 25 years American Express has been a proud supporter of the Queenstown community through its partnership with Queenstown Winter Festival.
“It’s fantastic to see the whole town get involved and welcome visitors from all of over the world. The American Express Queenstown Winter Festival has grown to become the largest celebration of winter in the Southern Hemisphere and we’re excited to be aligned with a festival that delivers such a great line-up of entertainment and activities, year after year”, said Julie Nestor.
Another addition to the American Express Opening Party and Fireworks line-up will bring a melting pot of entertainment, when the winners of the global initiative Feeling the Street take to the stage. Feeling the Street is an online campaign from TOYOTA to find the world’s best street musicians. Six performers from around the globe will gather and perform for the first time at the American Express Opening Party and Fireworks.
American Express Queenstown Winter Festival Manager Lisa Buckingham says the Feeling the Street campaign is an exciting initiative and she’s excited to see which of the talented street musicians make the final six.
“Currently, musicians in the online busking competition hail from London to Lima to Los Angeles. There aren’t any entries from the Queenstown Lakes Region yet, but musicians still have until 19 May to enter. They’d certainly get my vote as there’s a lot of talent in our district and I’d love to see this represented on stage at the American Express Opening Party and Fireworks among the world’s best street musicians,” says Lisa.
The American Express Opening Party and Fireworks starts at 5:30pm on Friday 19 June and marks the start of the winter season in Queenstown. The event is family-friendly and is held on Earnslaw Park. The fireworks display starts at 7pm.
