Digital News Journalist Sought To Join NZ Press Council

Journalist Member Appointment

The New Zealand Press Council invites applications from senior journalists with at least three years’ experience in digital news for appointment as a journalist member of the Press Council. This recognises the Press Council’s recent extension of membership to digital news providers and acceptance of complaints against those members.

Since 1972 the Press Council has provided an independent forum for resolving complaints about the editorial content of newspapers, magazines and their websites. The Press Council also lobbies on freedom of expression and press freedom issues.

The Council comprises an independent Chairman, five members with no association with the press who represent the public, three members nominated by newspaper and magazine publishers, one member nominated by the EPMU and the new position of a member to represent digital news providers.

The Council is based in Wellington and the appointee will need to be able to attend meetings of the Council every six weeks.

For further information on the Press Council please see www.presscouncil.org.nz

Applications, which should enclose a brief CV, close with the undersigned on April 20, 2015.
