Nominations are now open for the Auckland City for Peace Awards 2015, which honour the youth, adults and businesses who support the principles of peace.
Organised by The Peace Foundation, in partnership with Auckland Council, the third Auckland City for Peace Awards aim to recognise those that act toward 'Peace Service' and 'Leadership' in a way that benefits the community and the environment.
"With the success of last year's Auckland City for Peace Awards, the nominees' category has been extended to the business sector as well, to recognise and encourage the contribution of this sector towards peace development," says Caroline Ongelo-Calub, Acting General Manager of The Peace Foundation.
Auckland City for Peace Awards were a resounding success last year, which appreciated and honoured the unsung heroes of Auckland communities who have contributed to peace by organising peaceful conflict resolution programmes, celebrating cultural and ethnic diversity, implementing actions to protect the environment and putting in efforts to ensure or fulfil human rights.
Nominations for youth, adults and businesses for their contributions to peace are sought for any of the following criteria:
Peace through education
Promoting peace in the workplace
Peace in the family
Inclusive communities
Human Rights and Social Justice
Honouring the Treaty of Waitangi
Peace in the environment
The deadline for nominations is 5pm on Monday, 4 May 2015. The awarding ceremony will take place at Mt Albert War Memorial Hall, 733 New North Road, Mt Albert, Auckland on Friday 12 June 2015 at 3.30 pm.
