Animal lovers challenged to jump to the rescue
Thrill-seeking animal lovers challenged to jump to the
rescue
SPCA Auckland is calling for brave animal lovers to raise money, as well as their adrenalin levels by throwing themselves out of a plane for the second annual Jump to the Rescue fundraising event on Saturday 9 May.
Taking the plunge with Skydive Auckland in Parakai, fundraisers will leap out of a plane in a tandem jump from 13,000ft, freefalling for 45 seconds and reaching speeds of up to 200kph.
SPCA Auckland CEO Christine Kalin says the event is a fun and unique way for people to help the SPCA raise much needed funds for its animal welfare programmes.
“We’re asking people to be brave and courageous on behalf of animals around Auckland in need of our care.
“Just in time for Mother’s Day on Sunday 10 May, this could also be the ideal gift for mums that love an adventure just as much as they love their furry friends.”
This year’s fundraising target is $30,000 and participants will need to raise a minimum of $880 each to qualify for a free jump.
Funds raised will be used to fund SPCA Inspectors to attend animal rescue callouts, which cost an average of $105 per call out. Every participant who raises the $880 fundraising target will be helping to rescue 8 animals in need.
The inaugural 2014 Jump to the Rescue raised more than $25,000 towards rescuing and caring for injured, abandoned and abused animals.
